THERE were trains, planes and automobiles at a weekend show, but there was plenty of room for the hundreds of exhibits at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre.
The Our Town Model Show attracted more than 15,000 people and featured some amazing scale models, organiser Jackie Jansen said.
A German Panther tank built to scale got plenty of attention for its Port Macquarie builder.
``It's about knee-high and is the only one in Australia," Ms Jansen said.
She said scale models were popular because they were not static pieces for the display cabinet, but interactive.
``[The models] do work, most of the displays are animated," she said.
Ms Jansen said children got a kick out of driving vehicles on the Scalextric slot car track and model railway.
A large outdoor pool harboured radio-controlled ships and tugs, all at museum-standard scale.
There were re-enactments of famous historical battles and static displays of battleships.
This year the model show raised money for the Hunter Orthopedic School and had raised more than $75,000 in the past few years to local charities.
